What has evolved to become a profession has its basis on issues such as the role of women in hardware engineering and computer programming; the cost of hardware; other processes; including a host of others, and never a time was geographical location a significant influence on software development. Taking stock of the top software developers and how it looks like there is a geographical line that measures up with who becomes a better world software developers with a dark presence in the U.S. is a thing of concern.

Major Influences in Software Development

There is some obvious influence that has acted upon the significant changes in the process of software development. And such factors are majorly human-influenced factors, and they can be classified as one that has shaped software development concern on how they are becoming a more geographically sect. Some of these factors include:

  • Flexibility and Extensibility

  • Maintainability and Readability

  • Performance and Efficiency

  • Scalability

  • Usability and Accessibility

  • Platform Compatibility and Portability

  • Testability and Manageability

  • Security

  • Function-ability and correctness

While I may not exhaust the entirety of the above-noted points, software maintainability and readability were exceedingly one of the greatest challenges that championed some revolutionary milestone around the software development process.

Maintaining software or simply the day to day usage of software was a major challenge as it was more expensive than the development process. Also to ensure the functional ability and correctness of software it needs a more flexible developmental process, and challenges such as these were the primary reason that championed the course of outsourcing in software development. By this, those who generate the idea of a particular software, script it and outsource to teams majorly via the web and often time at more affordable labor cost. This has growingly shifted the technical skill base to a particular geographical location where it is now perceived to be the top software developers.

Which Country Has Taken Over the Industry and Why

It is easy to conclude that countries such as U.S and India would top the list of top 10 software developers but the following list of the survey reported by business insider will shock you and the reason for the poor performance of U.S. will also be discussed.

  1. China

  2. Russia

  3. Poland

  4. Switzerland

  5. Hungary

  6. Japan

  7. Taiwan

  8. France

  9. Czech Republic

  10. Italy

There are several reasons to which these attributes are made to the above lists. France for example which tops in C++ became so because they offered programming classes in elementary schools, Hungary which became the #5 are the first European country that adopted computer programming class into their education system both in primary and secondary education. On the threshold of it all, China who became the #1 best performing country of programmers achieved so with their specialty in the data structure, mathematics, and functional programming.

Where is the U.S?

Companies in the U.S have reported a significant challenge facing them in tapping into the Global world with the help of the internal pool of software developers’ talent. As a result of this the majority of U.S companies outsource most of their software developing needs, to other talent based countries such as India and China.

A primary cause of such shortage especially when compared to other software talent leading countries such as seen in Russia and France where most of them have it as a core foundational course in their primary and tertiary institution is a thing that differs when compared to the U.S.

It is reported that not more than 10% of U.S. schools offer computer programming classes. And worse of it all, the number of Advanced Placement tests in computer science has decreased by a whopping amount of 25% over the past five years.

It is left in the hands of policymakers to ensure that computer programming skills are introduced to become part of the core education programs in the U.S. as negligence towards this will result in negative impact on our economic system.

We would love to hear thoughts on this subject! Do you agree? Which nations are leading when it comes to software development talent.
